トルマリン　(Tourmaline)

　 トルマリンは一般に結晶ならともかくファセットされた石の産地を特定するのは困難です。
上の２色のブラジル産とのみ記された石は、しかし特徴ある配色からバラ・デ・サリーナス地区の多色の結晶をカットしたものと断定できる稀な例です。

It is almost impossible to determine the locality of faceted tourmalines. These Brazilian bi-color stones are rare example that enable us to estimate the origine as of Barra de Salinas area, thanks to it's particular color-pattern as shown in the crystal specimen.

天藍石　(Lazulite)　：　MgAl₂(PO₄)₂(OH)₂

		ラピスラズリの主成分であるラズライト(Lazurite)と名前も色も似ていて混同されやすいのがラズライト(天藍石)です。 　ブラジルのペグマタイト鉱脈産の藍方石にそっくりの青い石を稀に見かけますが、1990年代末頃からパキスタン産の緑がかった石が出現しました。 　いずれも1カラットを越える大きな石は極めて稀です。 　写真の石はパキスタン北部のスカルドゥ地方、インダス河の北に聳えるライラ峰(標高6985m)のベースキャンプ(標高4000m)と呼ばれる場所の周囲の変成作用を受けた岩に貫入した大理石脈から柘榴石や磁鉄鉱と共に発見されるそうです。 　Lazulite is apt to be confused with lazurite due to strong resemblance of their color and spelling. In addition to Brazilian blue faceted stone, greenish-blue stones appeared from Pakistan since late 1990's. Faceted stones over one carat is extremely rare in lazulite. 0.57ct stone of the photo is from Laila peak(6985m) in Skardu district, north of Pakistan. Lazurite is found together with garnet, magnetite etc., in a few veins of marbles intruded to entirely metamorphic rocks near a place called Laila Camp(4000m).

斧石（Axinite）

		斧石の美しい結晶標本は時折見かけますが、美しいルースとなると稀と言うより、見たことがありません。 　刃物のような薄く鋭い結晶のカットできるほどの厚みのある底部は亀裂や包有物が多く、著しく透明度が落ちるためです。 　したがって写真のルースは小さいながら稀に見る美しさといえましょう。 産地は上の天藍石と同じパキスタン北部スカルドゥ地方のインダス河の支流に沿うトルミクと思われます。 　While superb axinite crystal specimens are found from pegmatites and alpine type localities in the world, faceted axinite is one of the rarest. Blade like thin crystals hardly provide faceted stone. So far, 0.3ct faceted stone is, although very small, an rare example of pretty faceted axinite. The locality seems to be the same area as former lazulite, Tormiq, north of Dassu, along The Indus River.

霰石　(Aragonite)

		霰石は世界の至る所に産するありふれた鉱物です。 方解石と同じ組成の炭酸カルシウムの低温型の鉱物で、一般には球状、珊瑚状、針状、或いは斜方柱状結晶が3個双晶した擬六角柱の結晶として産します。 　ファセット・カット出来るような大きく透明な結晶の産地は唯一チェコのビリナです。 　数十カラットに達するような大きな大きなルースもありますが、珍しいだけで美しくもないのにやたらと高価ですから、コレクションとしては手頃な値段の小さな石で十分です。 　Aragonite is a common mineral, widely discovered in the world in various form of sphere, coral shape, acicular, or, pseudo-hexagonal prism, formed with triple twins of rhombic prism. However, transparent crystal, big enough to be faceted is found only from Bilina, Czech Republic. Big faceted aragonite is highly prized by collectors.

ヘソナイト・ガーネット(Hessonite　Garnet)

		ヘソナイトとは多彩な色合いを持つグロシュラー・ガーネットの中で淡黄ｰ金色ｰ橙ｰ赤の色合いの種類を総称する宝石名です。 　更に色合いによりシナモン・ストーン、ヒヤシンス等の呼称があります。 スリランカの砂礫層から大量に採れるので手頃な値段ですから真っ先にコレクションに入ったきり、その後は殆ど見向きもされないといった類の宝石です。 　したがってこれもその他諸々のルースを購入した、おまけのいただき物。しかしヘソナイトとしては小さいながらなかなかの美しさでここに登場した次第です。　 　Hessonite is a gemstone specy named to pale-yellow-golden-orange-red colors among colorful grossular garnet group. There are more detailed names, such as cinnamon stone and hyacinth, etc., depending their color variations. Because of abundance in alluvial deposits, particularly in Srilanka, hessonite is tend to be neglected as an attractive gemstone in the gem industry, nor from gem collectors. This 0.47ct stone was packed as free gift together with other stones. But it is indeed a cute stone, to remind me of the beauty of common and inexpensive gemstone.

ベニト石 (Benitoite) : BaTiSi₃O₉

		ベニト石の鋼のような青の発色の原因は不明です。 かつてはサファイアや菫青石等の青い宝石と同じ、主成分のチタン・イオンが酸素を介して不純物の鉄イオンと電荷をやり取りする電荷移動という仕組みで起こると考えられていました。 　しかしベニト石の結晶構造はサファイアより大きすぎるため同様の発色は起こりえないと否定されました。 　この小さなベニト石は、写真ではやや青みがかかって見えますが、肉眼では殆ど無色です。 　そのため0.044とダイアモンドと同じ高い分散によって強いファイアーが煌いて見えます。 　The steel-like cool blue color of benitoite was once considered as Fe2+ー O ー Ti4+ charge transfer,the same blue coloration mechanism as sapphire, kyanite, iolite, etc.. However, this theory was lator negated. A benitoite lattice structure is too large to cause the same blue color. There are no alternative for the benitoite coloration. Rarely, there are colorless benitoite,like this 0.12ct stone. Colorless benitoite reveals strong fire, due to dispersion of 0.044, that is as high as diamond.
